First Chapter Thoughts for…

The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia

Seventeen-year-old Frankie Devereux makes a reckless mistake that forces her to leave her privileged life to move in with her dad—an undercover cop. This sounds better than I anticipated.

On the one hand, I keep saying I don’t want to read any more young-adult contemporary books. And if I’m honest, I loved the first book of the Caster Chronicles, Beautiful Creatures, the writing was good, the characters, narrative voice, the story even. However, the sequel, Beautiful Darkness, was so unimpressive that I feel severely underwhelmed by the rest of the Caster Chronicles. Don’t even talk to me about the movie, it missed so many opportunities with such great casting.

This one, with a cover that is to die for, and a blurb that promises a reckless ride, might not seem to have the most gripping first line, but the pacing is great, the dialogue and narration are great… I have a good feeling about this book.

The only thing I want to know is if this is set as close to my region of New York State as I think it is.

Verdict: own, to-be-read
