George - Alex Gino

George by Alex Gino

This is a slender novel, so if you’ve been holding off on reading this, I assure you that it can be enjoyed in a single sitting.

George is the story of a girl who thinks the wise spider in Charlotte’s Web is amazing, who keeps her collection of girly magazines a secret, and who confesses to her best friend that she wants to be called Melissa.

Add this one to the embarrassingly long list of ‘books that made Josephine cry’ because this story of acceptance and love made me sniffle. I’m mostly blaming Kelly for this, because the friendship these two girls share was so breathtakingly wonderful, it made up the bullying, mostly because she was there to help.

It's perfect. You should read it.
